Spandrel timber frame panels are an alternative solution to traditional masonry construction. Historically, bricks or blocks have been used for gable ends and party walls. The downside to these is that they are exposed during the build, open to all weather conditions, and insufficient curing can become an issue. They can also be expensive, requiring extra labour time and scaffolding.

Spandrel panels have become more popular among builders in recent years. The benefits include:

  • Easy to install
  • Works for all construction projects
  • No need for extra scaffolding
  • Saves on time and labour costs
  • Safer erection process

We manufacture spandrel panels in our Shropshire factory, and these can be included as part of our full structural roof package. All this is supported by quality fast-turnaround from our West Midlands manufacturing facility backed by a nationwide delivery service – supporting you all the way.

New roof guidance information was published in April 2017 by the TRA (Trussed Rafter Association) to reduce the risks and costs of poor spandrel panel installation. Spandrels have grown more popular with housebuilders and a survey in 2017 by NHBC, found that 17% of 8,000 new home sites were using spandrel panels. The new guidance was developed by the TRA with the NHBC and the STA (Structural Timber Association) to ensure that spandrel panels are being constructed to the industry standard.

Lynx Trussed Rafters are members of the TRA and fully adopt the updated guidance information on the manufacturing and installation of our spandrel panels. Our trusses are TRA approved which you can see from their website, so you’re ensured high quality spandrel panels which comply with updated safety standards.
